I wish I was three and a half every now and then only because of the pure simplicity of the way the world is through their eyes. Grayson has been full of questions recently...some I wasn't expecting quite yet. Late last week, we were finishing breakfast when Gray asked, "How did I get into your belly?" My response, "well son it's a bit complicated, but the short end, God put you there, the long end, it involves some information on the birds and the bees." Gray's response: "Oh, is that smooth or crunchy peanut butter." Hmmmmm...I must have been pretty captivating.
Randy and Gray had a father son day on Saturday and ended up at an ice cream shop munching on a cone, when Randy saw that there was church on on that church, you guessed, a giant crucifixion. We have been reading about the crucifixion of Jesus, a tough subject for an adult to grasp, let alone a child. Randy started talking about what we have been reading in the bible and Gray had a picture of what this big word meant. "Jesus died, somebody died Jesus...why? Dada, that's not OK to die our friends."
Now cut to the shot of him and I a few days later in the midst of our nighttime routine, books and milk, topped off with brushing of his teeth and a bit of the bible. I think we may have been in the middle of an Olivia book when Gray brought up the ice cream and Jesus. He shared with me the entire experience that he shared with his dad.
"Mama, Jesus died. He died on the cross. Why."
Well, there were some people who were mad at Jesus because He was God's son and they didn't agree with what He was saying. They did not make the wise choice. It is not OK to hurt our friends.
"Mama, you know what, we should go and get Jesus off of that cross and bring Him home so that I can show Him my binoculars. I think He would really like my binoculars."
Gray, Jesus can see your binoculars from heaven. He is here and near. In fact, He wants to live in your heart forever and help guide you through your life, you just have to invite Him in.
(Gray lifts up his shirt) I don't see Him, where is He mama? And where is heaven?
It has been a wonderful week. As you can see, we have been blessed with quite an inquisitive little guy.
